Granite Nude #1 Available Online.

I made this little one-of-a-kind gouache (opaque watercolor) and screen print piece in 2009. There were 2 other drawings I used to make the stencil for screen printing. The first was a reference drawing from a model, and the second drawing was blown ink on paper, which I then photographed and shrank down the image for my screen print stencil. It is $125 on my brand new site Love Bomb Press.
It is one in a series of 27 unique pieces, you can see the rest on the ‘Granite Nude’ page.

New and Mixed Media Figure Drawings

New Figure Drawings

I added a page for my new figure drawings as well as one for some older mixed media figure drawings. I’m working on a few projects and have been doing a ton of life drawing. I haven’t worked back into this drawing yet, but I’d like to clean it up a bit and add some darker tones. I’ve been working a bit more descriptively than normal since I’ve been using these for reference.

My studio is open for the East Bay Open Studios Weekend, and the Compound’s big group show opens Saturday night. Stop by, say hi, and get a free small alligator screen print!

Watercolor sketches from ‘Dr. Sketchy’s Cute Girls on Bikes’

Last night was my first Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School event. Dr. Sketchy’s was started by an art school dropout in Brooklyn. I’m pretty sure you have to be an artist to be both a doctor and a college dropout. Overall it was a good event at a great venue at 111 Minna in San Francisco. Lots of fun, with loud music and good drink specials, which draws in a much younger crowd than your typical public figure drawing group. There weren’t easels or much standing room, so I kept it simple with a few felt tip markers and watercolor pans. I’ll definitely be back…

Life Drawing

Charcoal and Conte Crayon Life Drawing

Another one from my recent studio sessions. This is a five or seven minute pose. I’ve been doing mostly short poses and have been having a great time. Short poses often have a fresh look that is lacking in the longer poses. I usually start out with a few light lines to map the figure on the page, and then just go for it with some heavier line using a charcoal pencil. A little shading with a Conte Crayon, and that’s it. Sometimes I’ll go back into the drawing after the model has left and darken up some areas, and then fix the drawing with nonfat milk to prevent smearing.
