Faultline Panels and Canvas

Custom Painting Panels

wood painting panels

Part of the new Faultline Art Space is a panel/ canvas shop newly renamed to Faultline Panels and Canvas (formally Mission Blue Studio). I’ve been working on a new 1″ design and I’m able to use a lot of the scraps from larger orders that have been sitting on the shelf. A big difference in my ability to produce small panel in quantity has been a few tool upgrades, which has made the shop a lot safer and free of dust, while cutting down on time. I started my canvas and panel business over six years ago and started out in the back parking lot of an art gallery in downtown San Francisco, and moved 5 times since. For a few years I was working out of tiny garages and cutting down wood in the back yard, which was a nightmare with almost any kind of weather. I’d have to drag giant dusty panels through the tiny house between the backyard and the garage, it was pretty rough. Now I feel like a 1%er with all the space and new tools, but I’ve paid my dues. Faultline Panels and Canvas serves the San Francisco Bay Area and is currently taking new clients.

A Few 1 and 2 Minute Drawings

I went to the Bay Area Models’ Guild Marathon this morning. They always put on a great event, and I love that it goes for 6 hours. Ever since I took a life drawing class at De Anza College that was 5 hours a day with one ten minute break, four days a week for three weeks, I’ve felt that the standard 3 hour sessions most places do is just too short.

I normally draw the 5 and 10 minute poses, sometimes the 20′s, but today I did almost all 1 and 2 minute poses. I was definitely a bit rusty from not drawing from a model for a few months. Here are a few of my favorites, all pen on paper. I have some charcoal sketches too I’ll post after I go through them. 6 hours of one and two minute poses is a healthy stack.

Awesome Mural in Downtown Oakland

Mural on 26th street in Oakland

David Polka and thomas haag have been working on this for the last several days laying a foundation down for a collaborative mural at Classic Cars West in Oakland. It’s a minotaur with his guts spilling out and eventually turning into snakes at the other end of the mural. Ernest got back from a big mural job in New Mexico and jumped in with a giant 4 eyed healer dude. They had a launch party for the Oakland Art Murmur and some locals added to the design. Right on the other side of the wall at Uptown Body and Fender we had our continuing exhibit ‘Garage Sale’ up. This is the second first Friday we have had art up at Uptown, and they get some serious traffic in that place. It’s been great to see so many people coming out and supporting the arts in Oakland.

New Studio

I’ve been sharing a space with my wood shop, but that ends tomorrow with a wall going up. It’s only going up 10 ft so there will be plenty of natural light reaching the wood shop. I was thinking of putting up clear plastic for the dust, but I got some new dust collection and so far, there really hasn’t been much dust floating around. The wall will be nice to hang art on at least.
