Screen Printed Butterfly Kits on Paper

I’ve been busy printing and cutting out butterflies for my large butterfly collages. These kits are the affordable version. Just pin them where you need some color or frame them in a shadowbox frame like a real specimen. The largest butterflies are in a limited edition, and are signed and numbered, and are good for collectors. All the others are in an open edition, and are not signed or numbered, but are less expensive. These prints are available at Faultline Art Space.

Work in Progress

Chris Hondros Tribute Painting

Chris Hondros Tribute Painting

Green Revolution

Green Revolution

This is a commission I have been working on for the last several months. It is based on Chris Hondros’ photojournalism in Egypt. Mr. Hondros was tragically killed on assignment in Libya in April 2010. This one has a ways to go before being finished, but you get the idea. I’ll be doing several oil glazes to build up nice, deep colors over the chalky white areas. I’ll post more photos and a bit more about the concept when I finish the painting.

Moving!!

839 High Street, Second floor

I’m moving into a new studio space in December. It is 6000 sq ft in a warehouse above a furniture outlet on at 850 42nd Ave near High Street & 880 in Oakland. Here it is full of furniture. One of the many cool things about this space are the forklifts, so moving shouldn’t be to bad. I’m just going to get a truck with a lift and load it up with a pallet jack, drive it over, and they can lift it up to the second floor with the forklifts. Brilliant!

Its a bigger space, and I’m looking forward to doing some large pieces, including one similar to the butterflies I posted last month, but with 20,000 butterflies. It’s going to be fairly large.

The space is going to have a figure drawing area with public sessions in that corner by the windows, and a big screen print shop called Faultline Press with 18 foot walls for showing off some giant paintings and prints. I’m expanding my panel and canvas business, Mission Blue Studio, and will be setting up a nice little shop with some awesome new framers tools and a really nice table saw.

It’ll be ready for occupation in 2 weeks, and I’ll definitely be posted more photos soon. I’ll have some large studios for rent to painters working big and some smaller ones for screen printers. I’ll have some workshops and open the space up for people to get in and use the equipment, or draw from a model with natural light.

BP Turtle Skeleton

BP Logo Turtle Skeleton
BP Logo Turtle Skeleton

I did this one right after the BP Deepwater Horizon spill in the summer of 2010. 11 people were killed in the explosion and the well leaked 4.9 million barrels of oil into the gulf. I still have a good handful, and am selling them on Love Bomb Press, with a $25 donation going to Sea Turtle Conservancy. I almost forgot, this design was featured in the Greenpeace Redesign BP’s Logo Contest.
